During everyday use of Canon printers, some users may encounter issues where the printer fails to print. This article provides several effective solutions to help you quickly restore your printer's functionality.

1. Update Device Drivers

Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause the printer to fail to print. Checking and updating device drivers is an effective way to address this issue. Using Driver Talent is recommended for automatically detecting and updating drivers, saving time and avoiding the risk of downloading incorrect drivers.

Download Driver Talent

  • Download the latest version of Driver Talent, install the software, and open it. Click "Scan".

  • After the scan, the results will display any missing or outdated drivers. Locate the printer driver in the list and click "Download".

  • Once the update is complete, restart your computer to ensure the updated driver takes effect.

2. Check Connection Status

  • USB Connection: Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the computer and the printer. For desktops, try using a different USB port.

  • Wireless Connection: Confirm that the printer and the computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Check the printer panel to ensure the Wi-Fi indicator light shows a successful connection.

  • Verify that the printer is powered on and that no error messages (e.g., "Paper Jam" or "No Paper") are displayed on the printer panel.

3. Restart the Print Spooler Service

Press Win + R, type "services.msc", and press Enter to open the service management interface.

Locate the "Print Spooler" service, right-click it, and select "Stop".

Open File Explorer and navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS. Delete all files in this folder.

Return to the service management interface, right-click Print Spooler, and select "Start".

Restart your computer and check if the printer is functioning correctly.

4. Clear the Print Queue

Press Win + R, type "control printers", and press Enter to open the "Devices" and "Printers" window.

Locate your Canon printer, right-click it, and select "See what's printing".

In the print queue, right-click any stuck tasks and select "Cancel".

Clear all pending print tasks and retry the printing function.

5. Perform Printer Self-Test

Printer Self-Test:

You can run a self-test on your printer by pressing a specific combination of buttons when the printer starts. Refer to your printer manual for the exact button sequence.

Windows Test Page:

Open "Settings" > "Devices" > "Printers & Scanners".

Select your printer, click "Manage", and choose "Print a Test Page".

  • If the self-test or test page prints successfully, but the computer shows errors, the issue may lie in the software or driver settings.

  • If the printer cannot print its own test page, the problem is likely with the printer hardware rather than software or drivers. In this case, focus on resolving hardware issues first.

  • Test pages may include error codes or other details that can help diagnose the problem further.

6. Check Ink Cartridge Status

Open the printer cover and check whether the ink cartridges are correctly installed.

Ensure the ink cartridges have sufficient ink. If the ink is low or empty, replace the cartridges.

If the cartridges are properly installed and have ink, try reinstalling them.

Confirm that the printer recognizes the cartridges and that no error messages are displayed.

By following the steps above, you should be able to resolve the issue of your Canon printer failing to print. If the problem persists, consider contacting Canon customer support for further assistance.
