4 Fixes for Taskbar Missing Error after Windows 10 Update

Every time when there's a Windows update, there's always a variety of issues. Recently, some users reached us for help because their taskbar were missing from the desktop after the Windows 10 update. Fix 1. Check if the taskbar is hidden at the bottom
Sometimes the taskbar may be hidden at the bottom of the screen after you adjust the screen size. In this case, you just need to put your mouse pointer on the bottom border of your screen and check if your pointer turns into a double-arrow. If so, click and drag upwards. You can also try to move your pointer to the left, right and top edges to check if there is a double-arrow as well.
Fix 2. Disable the auto-hide taskbar feature
If your taskbar is missing from the desktop, it is also possible that your taskbar is automatically hidden. Therefore, to get rid of this issue, you need to check if the auto-hide taskbar feature is enabled. Take these steps:
Step 1. Press Windows + R to launch the Run dialog box, and then type “control” into the box and hit Enter to access the Control Panel.
Step 2. Click on the drop-down box next to View by and select Large icons.
Step 3. Find Taskbar and Navigation among the items and click on it.
Step 4. Check if the toggle buttons under “Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode” and “Automatically hide the taskbar in tablet mode” are on. If so, turn them off.
Fix 3. Change the display settings
If you change your presentation display frequently, the taskbar may be moved off the visible screen accidentally. Then you need to change your display settings to address the taskbar missing issue. Do like this:
Step 1. Press Windows + P to bring up the display mode options.
Step 2. Select PC screen only.
Fix 4. Restart the explorer.exe
Explorer.exe is a process to control the desktop and taskbar. If all the fixes above make no difference to the taskbar missing error, you can try to restart the explorer.exe in Task Manager. Follow the steps below:
Step 1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc or Ctrl + Alt + Del to launch the Task Manager.
Step 2. If the explorer.exe is running, click on it and select End Task.
Step 3. Click on File and select Run new task.
Step 4. Type “explorer.exe” into the dialog box and click on OK to restart it.
