Fix GPU Fan Problems on Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista, XP

How to Fix GPU Fan Problems on Windows 10, 8.1, 7, XP or Other Windows OS

Method 1: Check the Working Environment of the Hardware

First and foremost, you need to check the working condition of your device.

1. Make sure the GPU fans are working in an environment with normal temperature, humidity and area.

2. Check if there is accumulating dust on the fan blades or the slots. Dust accumulates day by day and can affect the feature of the GPU. Usually, you need to clean the dust out in every 2 or 3 years.

3. Check if the connectors are right in their places. Or you can re-plug in the connectors to the ports.

4. The GPU fan will stop spinning if there’s not enough oil to lubricate. So re-oil the GPU fan by removing the sticker on the fan and then drip the oil into the hole in the center. This will help to fix the noisy GPU fans.

Method 2: Replace the GPU Fan to a New One

If you have owned the GPU or graphics card for many years, it is possible that the adapter is too old to run on the computer or too old to be compatible with the latest Windows OS, namely Windows 10. So you can replace the old graphics card with a new one whose GPU fans work properly.

Method 3: Update the BIOS

Method 4: Remove the Battery and Fix the Problem

The notebook battery can also stop the fans and result in the GPU fan not working issue, because when there’s lower power or charge, the GPU fans will turn off temporarily to save the charge. In this case, the touchpad or other area of the laptop will heat up quickly.

If the GPU fan problems occur on your Asus, HP, Dell, Lenovo, etc. laptop, you can try to disassemble the battery and then assemble it back to the notebook again to see if the GPU fans spin normally. Also, charge your device with the power adapter.

Method 5: Update the Graphics/Video/VGA/Display Card Drivers

Outdated or incorrectly configured graphics card drivers also affect the spinning of the GPU fans. Graphics/video/display card drivers enable the communication between the Windows OS and the graphics hardware. If there are faulty graphics drivers, the GPU fans may stop suddenly or spin too fast or too slowly. Updating the graphics card drivers can help to release the pain.
