Many causes can trigger the display/graphics problems on Windows 10 and they can be summed up as the following:
1. Hardware device hitches
If there are conflicts in the graphics card or other hardware devices, like USB drive, external Bluetooth device or other peripheral devices, you may come across the display issue. Also, the obsolete device you've kept for a long time may not compatible with the OS.
2. Windows OS update
Each time when you update the operating system to the latest OS version, like Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, it is likely to occur black screen, blue screen, stretched screen, etc. because of the bugs in the unstable system.
Besides, if you own a high-level configuration computer with advanced CPU and you install lower Windows OS on the machine, it will cause the screen resolution problem.
3. Incorrect display-related settings
Some improper display configurations can result in the graphics issue on Windows 10.
4. Display driver issues
Outdated, missing, broken, or incompatible graphics card drivers are the culprits to trigger the screen problems. For example, you receive a driver update message during your gaming and you update it. Then you come across the display issues because the motherboard does not support the driver change. In this case, need to check the drivers and try to uninstall/rollback/update/reinstall/repair the drivers to fix the issues.
5. Improper Windows product key
If you purchase a Windows activation code that is not compatible with the Windows edition then you have distorted screen or other screen issues. For example, you use a product key for Windows 10 Home edition to activate the Windows 10 Enterprise edition. So we recommend you to buy a right code from the official site and activate the OS.
If it is hard to see the mouse cursor on the screen, you may need to enter the Safe Mode and then try the methods in Part 3 or Part 4 to fix the graphics problems. Here's how to boot into the Safe Mode:
1. Hold the power button to force the computer to shut down and then turn it on again.
2. Repeat step 1 over 3 times until you see the Recovery screen.
3. Click the options See advanced repair options>Troubleshoot>Advanced options>Windows Startup Settings>Restart.
4. Press the key F5 to Enter Safe Mode with Networking.
Note: If you got the black screen with cursor after entering the Windows desktop, you can stop the error by the following steps:
1. Press shortcut keys Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager.
2. Click the File menu and select the Run new task.
3. Type Explorer.exe into the box.
4. Check the Create this task with administrative privileges option.
5. Hit the Enter key.
If you can enter the desktop and do the operation on the system, then check the universal tricks in Part 3 or specific methods in Part 4 to solve the problems.
1. Swap the cables of a hard disk over or change to another port on the motherboard.
